Status Quo September 20, 2005Posted by BiB in Uncategorized.
No, silly billies, I don’t mean the world’s greatest ever rock group, I mean a bit of boring old stability in one’s own life. Today, it is the recipe for happiness. Keeping the status quo would be a bad idea, say, in Darfur, or in Belarus, or in my finances. But, on the whole, where the status quo now means thinking of a nice dinner AT HOME this evening cooked by a kitchen-wizard – I am lucky on this count – with some heavenly wine and an emergency post-prandial fag with a person you love and with enough material comforts for anyone sane, I would happily have this day last for ever. Change is agony. (My new compatriots seem to think this is also the case when it comes to electing new governments. Here, status quo should be a no-no.)
